About me

I’m Josh.

My LinkedIn will say I have a background in both management consulting and the start-up space across sub-Saharan Africa and the US. I’ve got an MBA from Duke University, worked at Boston Consulting Group and have been part of two companies which have scaled from 15 to 120+ people.

LinkedIn won’t tell you that, more than once, I’ve realised that I was deeply misaligned with the role I was working in. My values and the direction of the company didn’t align.

In 2022, I found myself in a low place. My confidence was raddled. I was unsure what to do next. But I came through the other side and landed my ideal role.

The crazy thing was, when I was at my lowest I was sure I needed to change jobs but I had no clue what my dream role was, let alone how to find it. I applied to roles and got no response. The offers I did receive just didn’t feel “right” for me.

Over the next 9 months I wrestled with my values. I did some deep introspection. I uncovered things about myself I never knew. I networked like a fiend. I had over 100 conversations. Tested business ideas. Consulted.

Through it I found what I called “skills-career fit” and I landed the EXACT role I wanted.

None of this happened by accident. I leveraged my learnings from my MBA & consulting experience. I read a bunch of books. I was highly selective with my introspection exercises. My networking was scientific. I refined my process over time.

Recently I’ve gotten to share that process with a few people that were in the same position I was. This week, one of those people said to me, “Josh, you made a huge impact on me and you don’t even know it. I only did 1/4 of what you recommended to me and I saw immediate progress. I landed my job 3 weeks later.”

I want to be clear on one thing: I’m not a certified coach. I have coached and mentored many people but I don’t have an organisation that certifies I know a lot of frameworks on this topic.
